What is an Apprenticeship?
A real alternative for school leavers who do not want to go on to full-time further education. Likewise, it is geared to whose who are at college or in a job and who feel they’re ready to increase their skills.
How does it work?
When an Apprentice is employed, it brings a person into the organisation who will train, learn skills and gain qualifications specific to the industry.
What does an Apprenticeship lead to?
There are two different levels:
The Intermediate Apprenticeship leads to qualifications at level 2 and the Advanced Apprenticeship leads to qualifications at level 3.
How long will it take?
There is no pre-set time for an Apprentice to complete their learning, The programme runs at their pace. However, an Intermediate Apprenticeship is expected to take between 1 and 2 years and an Advanced Apprenticeship from 2 to 4 years to complete depending on the framework. The programme encourages commitment from the individual.
Who is responsible for the training?
Employers are responsible for ensuring the person is trained in company procedures including health and safety at work. The training provider, with the commitment of the employer, will support the person and ensure they are competent. The training provider will supply the qualification assessment and the key skills.
Will the Apprentice go to off-site training every week?
This depends on the type of Apprenticeship. With some occupations there is a ‘day release’ element and with others occasional off-the-job training is required.
